Guide serves as a reference aid

The Human Service Guide is published annually through a partnership of The New Jersey Herald and the Sussex County Council of Service Agencies. It is intended as a reference guide for the people of our community to better access human services.

The information in this directory is neither an evaluation nor endorsement of the services described. Inclusion in this directory does not imply approval nor does exclusion imply disapproval.

Organizations listed with an asterisk (*) are members of the Council of Service Agencies, who meet monthly to network, share information, and coordinate services, in order to better serve the people of Sussex County.

Organizations are listed by substantive word; e.g. North Jersey Counseling Center , as "Counseling Centers, North Jersey ". If you are unable to find an agency in the guide or if you are interested in additional information about available services in the area, call the 24-hour-a-day Help Line at 2-1-1 . Thanks to major funding from the United Way , this service is available free of charge to all residents.

The Council of Service Agencies is grateful to The New Jersey Herald for its generosity in publishing this guide; to the organizations listed here for their cooperation and dedication to human services; and to the CSA Human Service Guide Committee of Bea Rush, Chairperson; Alana Steib, and Maria Fedele.

Any comments or questions about the Human Service Guide may be directed to: Council of Service Agencies, P.O. Box 134, Newton, N.J. 07860; or faxed to the CSA Human Service Guide Committee at 973/579-5708.

Easy and reliable access to information about available health and human services is critical to the overall well-being of a community. That's why United Ways nationwide have led the initiative to create 2-1-1 . When fully instituted, this easy-to-remember phone number will enable individuals anywhere in the country to contact their local information and referral service. Calls to 2-1-1 are always free and confidential.

On February 11, 2004, Sussex County joined the growing number of communities who have made 2-1-1 available locally. It is anticipated that by January 2005, 2-1-1 will be available in every community throughout the State of New Jersey

Through the partnership of United Way of Sussex County, Sussex County Help Line and Sprint, Sussex County residents can now simply dial 2-1-1, and be connected to our local call center 24 hours/day, 365 days/year.

"Every day, someone in our community needs essential services. It may be finding substance abuse assistance or securing adequate care for a child or an aging parent," said Suzanne Rosen , Director of United Way of Sussex County. "People often don't know where to turn. They may end up going without services because they do not know where to start. 2-1-1 is a vital resource for local people in need of assistance with health and human services."
